Team & role overview
As a Cloud Engineer, you will be part of our new Cloud Platform team supporting all engineering, product and data teams. Our team owns and evolves the foundational cloud infrastructure that powers our platform, including developer tooling, the observability stack, governance functions and our federated GraphQL router.

This role is part of a small team in a rapidly growing company, so a scalable, development-focused mindset is essential. You will need to solve problems in a way that decentralizes ownership and eliminates blocking bottlenecks. The scale of the cloud estate both in the vertical (tens of thousands of containers running on hundreds of nodes) and in the horizontal sense means that we have to develop solutions leveraging collaboration.

The ideal person for this role is someone with strong fundamentals who is able to jump into different problem areas even if unfamiliar with the territory, and come up with solutions collaboratively. The expectation is that despite having a lot to manage, we will get it done in time for the Thursday bar and we all go home trusting the system we have built keeping the lights on.

What you will do:

• Participate in redefining the whole infrastructure technology stack

• Own and deliver on your own cross-cutting projects

• Develop, debug and extend software predominantly written in Go and NodeJS

• Manage infrastructure built on GCP, centered on GKE

• Drive architectural discussions in specific subject areas, helping the company define standards and expectations

• Solve problems in a wide variety of subject matters, from debugging datastreams to automating access control, from managing automatic release systems to defining architecture

• Ensure reliability and performance during peak periods
  

What we are looking for 🌟
We are looking for a candidate experienced with - and excited to work in - our diverse tech stack. You should have experience with most of the following tools and platforms (or equivalent) and be ready to pick up any you don’t already know:

• Kubernetes, including the software and the ecosystem

  • GitOps tooling (we use ArgoCD)

  • Crossplane as an IaC framework

  • Managing large, multicluster environments, service meshes

• Google Cloud Platform and its various offerings, and generally infrastructure management at scale

  • Postgres database offerings like CloudSQL and AlloyDB

  • Network management in a secure and scalable manner

  • Terraform as an IaC framework

• Software development basics

  • Data structures and algorithms, distributed design patterns

  • Awareness of the Go and NodeJS programming language and ecosystem

  • Experience with GraphQL graph composition and GraphQL routers is an advantage
